TREK HIGHLIGHTS

A trekker with a blue backpack walks across a vast, rocky valley in Spiti after descending Pin Bhabha Pass.

First, drive from Shimla to Kafnu. It’s approximately 200 km long and passes through Narkanda, Rampur, and along the Sutlej River.

The trek starts at Kafnu and ends in Mudh Village, way out in Spiti. A key highlight of the Pin Bhaba Pass trek package is the stunning transformation in scenery—from dense green forests to the stark, high-altitude desert near the Rupin Pass.

The main highlight is Pin Bhaba Pass. It’s pretty high—about 4,915 meters—and the views from the top are breathtaking. Snowy peaks all around.

Camped at Mulling, Kara, and Phustirang. All three spots were incredibly peaceful, surrounded by flowers, rivers, and massive rocky hills.

The best time to go is from mid-June to mid-September, when the weather is clear and the trail remains open.

After Mudh, drive back to Manali. The route goes through Kaza and crosses Kunzum Pass, then finally the Atal Tunnel. The entire drive is approximately 190 km and is worth it.

DAY WISE ITINERARY

Day 1 - Shimla to Kafnu (2,400 m)

Drive Distance: 200 km
Duration: 8–10 hours
Route: Shimla → Narkanda → Rampur → Wangtu → Kafnu

Begin a walk from Shimla with a scenic drive through charming Himachali hamlets, featuring apple orchards, pine forests, and the Sutlej River. Since you have a final motor-rich point in Kinnur, Kafnu, the road becomes tight, and a sense of distance begins to set in. This quiet village marks the starting point of the Pin Bhaba trek from Kafnu to Mudh.

As the sun went down behind the sharp ridgelines, Cool called Alpine Air Adventure. You stand on the edge of the forest.

Day 2 - Kafnu to Mulling (3,250 m)

Trek Distance: 11–12 km
Duration: 6–7 hours
Altitude Gain: 850 m

Begin early alongside a hydroelectric tunnel before entering deep forests of conifers. Cross wooden bridges, thunderous Bhaba River streams, and open meadows dotted with grazing flocks. The steady climb rewards you with the breathtaking alpine campsite of Mulling — a highlight on the Pin Bhaba Pass best trek route.

Camp beside the river, under snow-capped cliffs and curling mist. You’re far from roads — and closer to nature than ever before.

Day 3 - Mulling to Kara (3,550 m)

Trek Distance: 6–7 km
Duration: 4–5 hours
Altitude Gain: 300 m

This is a gentler day across colorful wildflower meadows and glacial streams. The terrain is ideal for photography and wildlife spotting — mules, yaks, and migratory birds. Kara, a vast pastureland surrounded by peaks, is your home tonight.

As the sun dips below the horizon, you lie on the soft grass, absorbing the alpine calm. Trekking to Spiti has never felt so peaceful.

Day 4 - Kara to Phustirang (4,100 m)

Trek Distance: 9 km
Duration: 5–6 hours
Altitude Gain: 550 m

The trail turns rocky and steeper as you approach the high-altitude trek Phustirang campsite. With glacial water flowing beside your feet and Hansbeshan Peak looming above, the Himalayan drama unfolds.

At over 4,000 m, the cold is sharp, the stars are fierce, and every step forward makes tomorrow’s pass crossing feel real.

Day 5 - Phustirang → Pin Bhaba Pass (4,915 m) → Mangrungse (3,800 m)

Trek Distance: 12–14 km
Duration: 10–12 hours
Pass Altitude: 4,915 m

The summit day. Begin pre-dawn as you ascend the steep slopes of Pin Bhaba Pass — a tough route with switchbacks, scree, and snow. But reaching the top is surreal: green Kinnaur valleys behind, and Spiti’s painted barrenness ahead.
The descent into Mangrungse is long and technical, but this is the day you truly crossover from Kinnaur to Spiti Valley — an emotional high point of the Bhaba Pass trek.

As the stars rise over Spiti’s cold desert, you sleep like never before — you’ve crossed the great Himalayan divide.

Day 6 - Mangrungse to Mudh Village (3,800 m)

Trek Distance: 7–8 km
Duration: 4–5 hours

It’s an easy descent through the Pin Valley — surreal terrain filled with prayer flags, mud trails, and high mountain passes. Mudh, a beautiful Spitian village with barley fields and whitewashed homes, offers warm food, basic comforts, and unforgettable hospitality.

You soak in the journey from forests to moonscapes. The trek ends here, but the transformation is just beginning.

Day 7 - Mudh Village to Manali (via Kaza)

Drive Distance: 190 km
Duration: 8–10 hours
Route: Mudh → Kaza → Kunzum Pass → Chhatru → Atal Tunnel → Manali

Early morning drive through Pin Valley and past the colorful town of Kaza. Cross the majestic Kunzum Pass and roll into Lahaul, before reaching Manali via the Atal Tunnel.

As you check into your hotel in Manali — hot showers, fast food, and soft beds — you realize something inside has changed. The mountains gave you more than you came looking for.

Route Overview:
Delhi → Shimla → Rampur → Wangtu → Kafnu

By Air:
The nearest airport is Shimla (Jubbarhatti), but due to limited flights, most travelers prefer flying to Chandigarh Airport (approx. 270 km from Shimla).

By Road (Recommended):
From Shimla, take a private taxi or Himachal Roadways bus towards Rampur, then continue onward to Kafnu via Wangtu. The journey from Shimla to Kafnu is approximately 200 km and takes 8–10 hours.

Return Journey (After Trek):
The trip ends at Mudh Village of Spiti Valley. From there, you drive past Kaza, and then continue to Manali through Kunzum Pass and the Atal Tunnel. This return journey takes 8–10 hours and offers the last glimpse of the Himalayan desert and alpine region.
