    FAQS

April to December is the best season to organise a trek to Kareri Lake. These months cover the region's summer, monsoon, and nice winter seasons. You might have a radically different view of the local surroundings with each new month.

There are several excellent treks near Dharamsala and Mcleodganj besides the one to Triund. A journey to Kareri Lake is ideal for you if you want to embark on a hike that is not yet featured on Instagram and is visited only by the most enthusiastic hikers and explorers.

Yes, due to its high altitude, you can experience plenty of snow in Kareri in certain months. Snowfall season generally starts in mid-December and ends in February in Kareri.

In Himachal Pradesh, Kareri Lake is close to the cities of Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. The ideal course of action, if you are driving your own vehicle, would be to travel all the way to Kareri Khas and begin your walk from there.

The trek to Kareri Lake has no network coverage. Even BSNL operates infrequently. No one in Kareri accepts Paytm or any other online payment method.

It costs between 380 and 1,500 rupees and takes 6 hours and 41 minutes to travel by bus from Chandigarh to Kareri Lake via Sector 8/18.

Another way to travel from Dharamshala to Ghera village, which is around 20 kilometres from the lake, is by hiring a jeep. From the main bazaar, cross Bhote Khosi to head toward the bridge by foot. After passing under the bridge, turn left and continue hiking upward, following the Kareri river.

Yes, most of the visitors love to do the solo trek as well. It is completely safe.

For the Kareri lake trek, you need to plan your trip first. The nearest road head for buses is Dharamshala. From Dharamshala, local buses ply to Ghera village from 8 am onwards. From Ghera, Kareri village (starting point of the trek) is about a 2-hour walk.

The 4.5-kilometre journey takes roughly 3–4 hours to complete from Rioti village to Kareri. After arriving at the lake, you can trek up to Gajj, which is 30 minutes away.

It is a freshwater lake that is small. One may swim in the lake throughout the summer. The lake, however, acquires a fresh attractiveness during the winter when it is frozen, and the path leading to it is buried under around 3 to 4 feet of snow.

It is entirely up to you if you can complete the 26-kilometre trip from Kareri Village to Kareri Lake and back.

Kareri Lake is an easy to intermediate-level trek for anyone who has maintained a reasonable level of fitness. For the most part, it provides a straightforward path; nonetheless, there are certain sections of ground that require a hard upward trek and are covered with rocky outcrops.
